The Hebrew Department was created in 2010 with the aim of strengthening the model of teaching Hebrew as a second language in network schools and thus developing a pedagogical platform for language teaching courses by standardized levels, as well as for the professionalization of the teachers of Hebrew as a second language through the offer of continuous education, both in the university and in the schools. The Department works in 4 areas of language development, which are: the teaching of the Hebrew language, the teaching of didactics, consulting and program development, as well as the evaluation of results and implementation processes. Furthermore, the Department of Hebrew is officially recognized as a certifier of the Hebrew language as a third language and as an expert translator. In 2018 the Department expanded and became the Department of Jewish and Hebrew Education, with the aim of also professionalizing the teachers of Judaic Studies, through the development of the pedagogy and specific didactics of Judaic Studies. The Department is developing continuing education offerings in the area of Bible teaching and later in other areas related to Jewish Education. The Department also has a training program for new Jewish educators, which exposes participants to methods that respond to new educational trends and aims to cover the need to insert new educators in the network of Jewish schools.
